Hawaiian Legacy Hardwoods wins award
HLH, a sustainable forestry company based on Hawaii Island, has been recognized for the fourth consecutive year as a “B Corp Best for the World” honoree from B Lab, a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organization that serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
HLH was first accredited as a Certified B Corporation in 2013, joining a new class of companies using the power of business to help resolve social, environmental and economic problems. HLH earned a score in the top 10 percent of more than 2,100 Certified B Corporations on the 2017 B
Reforestation Initiative (HLRI), HLH has reforested more than 400,000 endemic and native trees in Hawaii while raising funds for more than 300 nonprofits worldwide.
Quilters gather Saturday
Aloha Quilters of Kona will meet from 9:30 a.m.-noon on Saturday at Queen Emma Community Center at Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua.
The meeting is open to everyone, novice quilter or “old hand,” with interest in traditional or Hawaiian-style quilting.

World Peace Marriage Rededication Ceremony set
In conjunction with the September celebration of the annual United Nations International Day of Peace, a World Peace Marriage Rededication Ceremony is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden.
“The ceremony is an affirmation of marriage as transformative and sacred, as the wellspring of love for children and grandchildren, as the source of a healthy society and a building block for world peace,” said ceremony officiator Rev. Chuck Frumin.
Open to married couples wishing to renew their marriage while promoting world peace, the event welcomes guests and children of participating couples. The marriage reaffirmation is sponsored by the Kona Family Church, a branch of the Family Federation for World Peace.
Festivities will be indoors and include a marriage renewal ceremony and barbecue chicken buffet dinner. Flowers will be provided to participants.
Event participation is free, donations are appreciated.
